The postholder will play a key role in the Adult Safeguarding Team, delivering statutory functions under the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and associated safeguarding legislation. The role involves working with adults at risk of abuse or neglect, coordinating Section 42 enquiries, and carrying out assessments and interventions that promote safety, wellbeing, and independence. This position requires significant safeguarding experience, strong legal literacy, and the ability to manage complex and high-risk cases effectively within a multi-agency safeguarding environment. Key Responsibilities: Lead, coordinate, and complete Section 42 Safeguarding Enquiries in line with statutory duties. Undertake risk assessments, develop and monitor safeguarding plans, and ensure proportionate and person-centred responses to abuse and neglect. Work collaboratively with police, health, housing, providers, and other partners to ensure robust protection measures. Provide safeguarding advice and guidance to practitioners, partner agencies, and carers. Statutory Social Work Duties: Carry out welfare checks and home visits in response to concerns about an adult’s safety or wellbeing. Undertake mental capacity assessments and apply best-interest processes where required. Manage a complex caseload, including adults experiencing significant risk, self-neglect, exploitation, or domestic abuse. 3. Community-Based Practice Visit individuals, families, and service providers across the locality to gather information, assess risk, and deliver interventions. Establish constructive working relationships with adults, families, and support networks. Promote independence and empowerment through personalised and strengths-based practice. 4. Legal & Professional Responsibilities Apply relevant legislation including the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Human Rights Act, Domestic Abuse Act, and safeguarding statutory guidance. Maintain high-quality, accurate, and timely case records and reports. Provide professional witness statements for legal processes when required. Adhere to professional standards and Social Work England registration requirements. 5. Multi-Agency Collaboration Participate in safeguarding meetings, multi-disciplinary discussions, strategy meetings, and case conferences. Build strong partnerships with internal services and external agencies to manage risk and safeguard adults. Advocate for adults at risk and ensure their voice is central to decision-making.
